In the early 1800's Alexis De Tocqueville, a French historian and philosopher, traveled to America to learn her secret to success in becoming the most energetic, creative and free society the world had ever known. He stated: "... the American people... appear to be the most enlightened community in the world... every citizen is taught the doctrines and the evidences of his religion, the history of his country, and the leading features of its Constitution... it is extremely rare to find a man imperfectly acquainted with all these things, and a person wholly ignorant of them is a sort of phenomenon."
 
Today, it is extremely rare to find a man even vaguely familiar with the principles in our Constitution.  An ill-informed electorate is THE root problem that our country currently faces which is reflected in the character of our elected officials.

How do we restore our Constitutional Republic?
 

"Although all men are born free, and all nations might be so, yet too true it is, that slavery has been the general lot of the human race. Ignorant - they have been cheated; asleep - they have been surprised; divided - the yoke has been forced upon them. But what is the lesson? That because the people may betray themselves, they ought to give themselves up, blindfolded, to those who have an interest in betraying them? Rather conclude that the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government they should watch over it..."

There is actually only one way to get back to a Constitutionally-limited government and that is through rebuilding an informed electorate that will:
  1. Monitor the constitutionality of congressional votes
  2. Influence representatives and senators to vote constitutionally on new legislation
  3. Only elect constitutionalists who will abide by their oath to the Constitution
No easy way exists!

The John Birch Society is the longest-standing and most experienced grass-roots organization in the Constitutional freedom movement!
 
Robert Welch, the founder of The John Birch Society, pioneered the modern Constitutionalist movement and designed a program that can regenerate an informed electorate in any congressional district.  When 500 patriots within a congressional district follow this program those sufficiently informed voters begin to influence their representative to vote constitutionally or those same sufficiently informed voters will choose a more constitutionally minded candidate for office.  The challenge has always been in creating the necessary critical mass of informed voters in a majority of congressional districts.  But when this is accomplished we will see a Congress that will:
  • Enact laws within the framework of the U.S. Constitution
  • Repeal unconstitutional laws
  • Cut off the funding for programs for which there is no constitutional authority
  • Limit the appellate jurisdiction of the United States Supreme Court
  • Cancel executive orders that exceed the constitutional jurisdiction of the president
America was founded on the twin beliefs that human beings get their rights from God and that the only legitimate purpose of government is to protect those rights.  More than two centuries ago, our Founding Fathers mutually pledged to each other their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in order to bequeath to us our freedom and then they created a constitutional republic to help protect that gift.  Yet many Americans seem unaware or unconcerned that we are rapidly losing what was gained at great cost over 200 years ago.
 
Daniel Webster made a plea to his generation when he said: "Hold on, my friends, to the Constitution and the Republic for which it stands. Miracles do not cluster, and what has happened once in 6,000 years, may not happen again."
 
We have truly been blessed with this gift of liberty from our Founding Fathers and we must remember that our right to be free comes with a responsibility to guard those freedoms and to pass them on to future generations. If enough American patriots are dedicated to rebuilding a sufficiently informed electorate then we will leave this country in better shape than we found it. And isn't that the point?

  • Patriotism based on principle, not pragmatism, personality or partisan politics.

Mission of The John Birch Society

To bring about less government, more responsibility, and - with God's help - a better world by providing leadership, education, and organized volunteer action in accordance with basic morality and the principles embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
